Thirty Iraqi leaders have filled the nomination papers for the presidential post.
Talking to journalists in the holy city of Najaf, Mohammad Abdelbussi, Parliament Speaker of Iraq, said that the position of the President in the country is very important and so far thirty candidates have nominated for this. He said that it is the responsibility of the President to protect the constitution of the country and the President gives the responsibility of the future of the country to the Prime Minister to constitute the Cabinet.
According to the Iraqi media, two women who have filled the nomination papers for the presidential post also include two women.
The meeting of the parliament for the selection of the Iraqi President was called on Tuesday, but the meeting was postponed due to differences over the issue of Presidential position between the two major Kurdish parties.
Under the Iraqi constitution, the country’s President Sunni Kurd is elected from the population. The Parliament of Iraq is the Chairman of the Sunni community while the Prime Minister is related to the Bahluliya Shea population.
