Jaipur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajasthan does not seem to get relief from rebel leaders. In fact, the BJP’s rebel councilor Vishnudutt Sharma (Lata) was elected the new mayor of Jaipur Municipal Corporation. He defeated BJP’s official candidate and executive mayor Manoj Bhardwaj by a vote. In the victory of Lata, there were the role of the Congress, some independents and the BJP’s councilors who have voted for cross voting. During this five-year term of the current board, the lata became the third mayor.
There is a majority of BJP in the corporation board. Election officer Arvind Saraswat said, “One vote out of 90 votes was rejected. Lota got 45 votes and Bharadwaj got 44 votes. After counting, the lata was declared the winner.
After the results came out, Lata told reporters, “I got support from Congress, some BJP and independents. I thank them. “On the question of joining the Congress, Lata said that he will make a decision later in this regard. He said, “My priority is development of Jaipur.”
It is worth mentioning that due to the election of Ashok Lahoti MLA last month, the mayor’s post had to be re-elected. The corporation currently has 90 councilors, out of which 63 BJP and 19 Congress councilors are included. The election for the post of mayor for the third time is being held for the third time in the current tenure of the corporation. In November 2014, Nirmala Nahata became the Mayor of BJP but she resigned from her post in December 2016 citing personal reasons.
BJP has made all efforts to ensure the victory of the party candidate The party’s councilor was living in a private resort on Ajmer Road from Sunday evening. Transport Minister Pratap Singh Khatriyawas said in the assembly complex, “Congress supported Lata. BJP was divided, and about 15 councilors of BJP voted him. “
