Lok Sabha Election 2019: Tripura has got a big setback for ruling BJP. Tripura BJP vice-president Sushal Bhowmick and two other leaders joined the BJP, leaving the Congress. On this occasion, Soul Bhowmick said that I was in BJP for the last five years. Earlier, I lived in Congress for the last 35 years. This is like a ‘homecoming’ for me.
Among the leaders involved in the Congress with Bhowmick are former ministers Prakash Das and Debashish Sen. Tripura Congress President Pradyat Bikram Manikya Debbarman and AICC Secretary Bhupen Bora welcomed the three leaders at a media conference. Bhowmick joined BJP in 2015, while Das and Sen joined BJP in 2017 and Congress and Marxist Communist Party respectively.
Let me tell you there are two seats in Tripura. Tripura West, 11 and Tripura East will be voted on April 18. CPIM won both the seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Although the CPIM suffered a massive defeat in the 2018 Lok Sabha elections and for the first time, the BJP formed the government in Tripura for the first time. The Assembly has 60 seats in the Assembly and BJP 36, IPFT 8 and CPIM won 16 seats.
